Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a monster 2025 season, but he is on pace to make NFL history in 2026.
The NFL revealed Smith-Njigba's stats through seven weeks, and he has 58 receptions for 867 yards and eight touchdowns. In the same post, the NFL shared Calvin Johnson's stats through seven games in 2012, and he had 41 receptions for 638 yards and one touchdown.
The NFL compared Johnson's 2012 season to what Smith-Njigba is doing now because Johnson finished the year with 122 receptions for 1,964 yards and five touchdowns. The 1,964 yards Johnson tallied set an NFL single-season record.

At that time, NFL teams were only playing 16 regular-season games. There are now 17 games, so if Smith-Njigba keeps it up, he could be the first NFL player to post 2,000 receiving yards in a single year.

Mike Macdonald Says Jaxon Smith-Njigba is 'Tremendous'
This year, Smith-Njigba has had at least 100 receiving yards in every game except for one, and he has caught at least one touchdown pass in all but two matchups. In 2025, the 24-year-old caught 119 passes for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns.
"He's tremendous," Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said about Smith-Njigba after the team defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. "I don't know how else to describe him.
"I'd love to brag on him more, but he's tremendous… You'd be crazy not to try to make him the primary on as many concepts as you can. Maybe sometimes he's on the backside of a concept, and we can get to him."
