New York Giants fans quickly attached to the team's rookie duo, quarterback Jaxson Dart and running back Cam Skattebo, last season. Dart and Skattebo frequently went viral for their headbutt celebration, and their bruising style of play captured league-wide attention.
The dawn of the Dawn and Skattebo era in New York hit its apex when the Giants upset the then-defending champion Philadelphia Eagles 34-17 on Thursday, Oct. 9. Skattebo went off for 98 yards and three touchdowns, while Dart accounted for 253 yards and two touchdowns — 195 yards and one touchdown through the air, 58 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Unfortunately, the Giants' momentum was derailed when they met the Eagles again on Oct. 26. Skattebo suffered a heinous season-ending injury. According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, he dislocated his ankle, suffered an open tibia fracture, and ruptured his deltoid ligament.

On Wednesday, Skattebo joined The Rich Eisen Show and provided an update on his rehabilitation.

"I'm getting better," the 24-year-old said. "I ran for the first time today at about 75%, so it's the bright side of things."
When Eisen asked what 75% looked like, Skattebo said, "Not very fast, I'll tell you that. I can get away from, like, a baby hippo, maybe. That's about it. A little bit over a job. Kind of just striding out, not exploding yet, and getting into that part of the game, but the jog and the striding."
Skattebo said the only thing slowing him down is the nature of his injury, but he'll "absolutely" be ready for training camp in July. "I've probably got a little over a month left until I'm fully back to 100%," he said. "OTAs are coming up in about a month, and I'm excited. I'll be ready to go."
Skattebo also provided details from his initial conversations with newly hired Giants head coach John Harbaugh, who coached the Baltimore Ravens from 2008 until last season. "He told me he respects the way I run the ball and the offense that he's implementing is downhill running, and it's perfect for what I am," he said.
Skattebo finished his rookie campaign with 410 yards and five touchdowns on 101 carries and 4.1 yards per attempt in eight games.
Skattebo's comments echo what SNY's Connor Hughes reported earlier this month after the 2026 NFL Combine.
"Harbaugh has a clear vision for the team’s offensive identity: run the ball — and then run it again — behind a dominant offensive line," Hughes wrote. "That makes the addition of Greg Roman to the coaching staff particularly notable."
The Giants are slotted at No. 5 overall in April's 2026 NFL Draft, and ESPN's Jordan Ranaan has reported the Giants' interest in former Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love, if he's there to be drafted at No. 5.
