The New York Giants are breathing a massive sigh of relief after watching starting quarterback JJ McCarthy take a massive hit during their Week 9 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, McCarthy took a hit directly to his throwing shoulder from Eagles linebacker Zack Baun and went into the locker room for further evaluation.

McCarthy completed nine of his 13 passes for 101 yards while being sacked five times in the first half.

The Giants briefly turned to backup quarterback Jameis Winston, who has thrown for 957 yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season in relief for injured starter Jaxson Dart.

However, New York switched to McCarthy as its starter ahead of its Week 7 matchup against the Houston Texans, and he played quite well, throwing for 495 yards, one touchdown and one interception entering Week 9.

The Giants traded a 2027 fifth-round draft pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for McCarthy following Dart's season-ending injury in September.

The No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Michigan, McCarthy has thrown for 2,127 yards, 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions in his professional career.
