The New York Giants have been one of the NFL’s biggest surprises in head coach John Harbaugh’s first season, sitting atop the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record entering Week 9.
However, their backfield is a little banged up.
Leading rusher Cam Skattebo (418 yards, two touchdowns) was inactive for Sunday’s game against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles with a hamstring injury, leaving Devin Singletary to carry the load.

That explains why the Giants have been heavily linked to Indianapolis Colts star running back Jonathan Taylor ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline.
Harbaugh hasn’t hidden what he wants either. A few weeks ago, he said he’d love for the Giants to be in “a Derrick Henry circumstance or a Saquon Barkley circumstance.”

...
The problem is the price. Indianapolis has reportedly been seeking a package similar to what the Carolina Panthers got for Christian McCaffrey in 2022 — a second-, third-, fourth-, and fifth-round pick.
On Sunday, NJ.com’s Darryl Slater reported that the Giants’ earlier offer of a second- and fifth-round pick is now off the table, and that New York appears to have cooled on Taylor.
However, Fox Sports’ Ralph Vacchiano believes the Giants have a fallback option if acquiring Taylor doesn’t work out.
“One thing I know for sure is that the New York Giants really want him. Badly,” Vacchiano wrote. “The only question is how much they’re willing to pay. John Harbaugh was openly talking about adding a bell cow running back a few weeks ago.
“… The 28-year-old Taylor is his best bet (Tennessee’s Tony Pollard might be their Plan B). The problem, as one executive told me, is, ‘No one is sure if Indy is serious about trading him. What they want is an extraordinarily high price.’”

...
Pollard would make plenty of sense for New York.
The 29-year-old has 595 yards and six touchdowns on 133 carries this season, including 246 yards and five scores over his last two games heading into Tennessee’s Week 9 bye. He also topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons with the Titans.
He’s in the final season of a three-year, $21.75 million contract, so he’d be just a rental.
However, the Titans have been reluctant about dealing Pollard. SNY’s Connor Hughes added that the Titans won’t move Pollard “unless they, too, get an offer they can’t refuse.”
