New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll says Dexter Lawrence could be facing a long-term injury after the defensive tackle suffered a dislocated elbow last night, per Mike Garofolo.

Lawrence is undergoing an MRI today to assess the severity of the injury, but early indications suggest that the injury could keep him out for an extended period. With the nature of the injury, it appears unlikely that Lawrence will return to the field this season, potentially sidelining him for the rest of 2024. This is a significant blow to the Giants' defense, as Lawrence has been a key anchor on their defensive line.

Lawrence revealed that he dislocated his left elbow during Thursday's 27-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium, saying, "I overextended, and [linebacker] Bobby [Okereke] came crashing down and it popped out of place. I looked at him and said, 'You just popped my elbow out of place.' And then I thought, 'I wonder if this is what shock feels like.'"

The star defensive lineman left the game in the third quarter and did not return. After the game, Lawrence was seen with his elbow heavily wrapped and in a sling. He was initially expected to spend some time out due to injury, but now it seems that he is likely to have finished his season.

Lawrence was selected 17th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. A standout at Clemson University, he helped lead the Tigers to a national championship in 2018, earning All-ACC honors. Known for his massive size (6'4", 342 pounds) and strength, Lawrence quickly became a key piece of the Giants' defense as well as defensive captain.

For the second week in a row, the Giants were defeated, and this time it came on national television during the Thanksgiving game, as they fell to the Dallas Cowboys in a highly visible matchup. New York's offensive struggles continued, with Drew Lock stepping in as the third quarterback in as many weeks. The offense showed little improvement, leaving the Giants to face another disappointing loss.

Despite owner John Mara offering a vote of confidence to Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen just over a month ago, the team has failed to win since, now enduring a seven-game losing streak. With the Giants' season spiraling, the pressure is mounting on both Daboll and Schoen, and their jobs are increasingly in jeopardy as the team's struggles persist.
