The NFL Trade deadline has come and gone, but now teams are likely to start signing players who have been cut due to roster improvements. The Tennessee Titans are one of those teams, as they are set to sign former Kansas City Chiefs safety Mike Edwards.

Edwards played for the Chiefs in 2023, helping the team secure a Super Bowl victory. He was also part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022, winning a Super Bowl when Tom Brady led the team to a victory in 2020.

Edwards has spent six seasons in the NFL, mostly with the Buccaneers. After the 2022 season, he signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs. While there, he secured 51 tackles, one sack, two fumble recoveries, one interception, and five passes defended.
Edwards's most successful season came in 2021 when he secured three interceptions, two defensive touchdowns, seven passes defended, and 46 total tackles.
The Titans get a solid veteran in Edwards, and it appears they are attempting to rebound their season. Despite allowing DeAndre Hopkins to head to the Chiefs, and trading Ernest Jones IV to the Seahawks — Tennessee is hoping to come back in some way.
The Titans are currently 2-6 on the season, and they picked up a big win against the New England Patriots on Sunday. Despite the Patriots being a lowly opponent, Tennessee all but saved their season with the win.
The issue for the Titans has been injuries, which have affected the offense in a big way. Quarterback Will Levis has been out after suffering a shoulder injury to his throwing arm when the Titans took on the Miami Dolphins. Before that, Levis has played very inconsistently, often throwing costly turnovers.
The Titans are not necessarily eliminated from playoff contention yet, but a couple more losses will certainly end their postseason hopes. Though Hopkins signed with another team, there are still plenty of other offensive weapons that can help to turn things around.
Wide receiver Calvin Ridley and running back Tony Pollard have been fantastic in 2024. The issue now is whether the Titans choose to keep Levis on the bench, or if they decide to allow Mason Rudolph to lead the team moving forward.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan has stated that Levis is still the starter, but there needs to be more conversation on the matter. Rudolph has played well in Levis' absence and it will be interesting to see if he remains the starter.
Either way, the Titans have upgraded their secondary by adding Edwards. Time will tell if this move pays off.
