The Atlanta Falcons signed Tua Tagovailoa this offseason to a one-year, $1.3 million deal after he was released by the Miami Dolphins.
Tagovailoa struggled last season, but he was once the fifth overall pick in the draft and one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL. The Falcons, meanwhile, need answers at the position after their own first-round pick, Michael Penix Jr. — selected eighth overall in the 2024 draft — is recovering from the third ACL tear of his young career.
With training camp ramping up in Atlanta, Tagovailoa was asked about the possibility of the Falcons signing one of his former Miami teammates, wide receiver Tyreek Hill. "Just talking," Tagovailoa said, referring to a FaceTime call the two had during OTAs. "That's also not my call. At the end of the day, I want to make sure he's good, still able to run with his kids when he's done."

Tagovailoa and Hill saw plenty of success together in Miami. Hill put up back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023 with Tagovailoa throwing him the ball, earning first-team All-Pro honors both years. Tagovailoa, meanwhile, made the Pro Bowl in 2023 while leading the NFL with 4,624 passing yards and 29 touchdowns, completing 69.3% of his passes. He also led the league with a 105.5 passer rating in 2022 and paced all quarterbacks in completion percentage (72.9%) in 2024 — all with Hill as his top target.
It's natural to assume the two could reunite in Atlanta now that Hill is a free agent, but his recent injury complicates that scenario. Hill is still recovering from a severe injury suffered in Week 4 of the 2025 season, when he dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments, including his ACL. He underwent two surgeries and remains in the middle of his rehab. The Dolphins released him in February, and teams have been hesitant to sign him with his recovery timeline still unclear.

The Falcons aren't exactly desperate for another pass catcher, either. They just extended star receiver Drake London, drafted Georgia's Zachariah Branch in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, signed former first-round pick Jahan Dotson, and brought back veteran Olamide Zaccheaus in free agency.
