The Philadelphia Eagles made it through the first wave of free agency with AJ Brown on the roster, but general manager Howie Roseman made a move on Friday that will add more fuel to the fire regarding questions about the star wide receiver's future with the organization.

Schefter noted that the "belief" remains that the Eagles would trade Brown after June 1 for cap purposes, meaning there does not appear to be a draft night trade on the horizon.

More News: Chiefs Appear to Have Offered Travis Kelce a ‘Farewell Deal’
"ESPN sources: the Green Bay Packers are trading wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick," Schefter wrote. "Wicks will sign a one-year, $12.5 million extension with the Eagles, per his agent David Mulugheta.
"AJ Brown’s future in Philadelphia remains a topic of conversation, and in the meantime, the Eagles add another WR in Dontayvion Wicks from Green Bay. The belief remains that, if an AJ Brown trade were to happen, it would likely occur after June 1, when the cap burden would be more manageable for the Eagles."
The Packers selected Wicks in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He's appeared in 46 games and started 18 games. The former Virginia standout recorded 108 receptions for 1,328 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Wicks gives the Eagles more flexibility if indeed they do trade Brown before training camp this summer.
While it might be appetizing to some for a trade to happen near the draft, the Eagles stand to gain more from trading Brown after June 1.
If the Eagles trade Brown before June 1, his cap charge would increase by over $20 million, meaning the team would have a dead cap hit of $43.5 million. If Brown were to be traded after June 1, Philadelphia would save $7 million cap space, with a dead cap change of $16.3 million.
Philadelphia could then spread out the rest of Brown's dead cap to 2027.
