After suffering their sixth straight loss, the Philadelphia Eagles made a major quarterback decision ahead of a crucial matchup with NFC East rival the New York Giants.
On Wednesday, the team announced that backup Joe Milton will take over as starting quarterback. Tanner McKee was the team's quarterback for the past several games, following starter Jalen Hurts' diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis in his leg and bilateral pulmonary emboli in his lungs.
However, McKee struggled to lead the team to much success in his time on the field. In the most recent game against the Washington Commanders, the Eagles lost 27-10.

In that defeat, McKee completed 23 of 34 passes for 212 yards and an interception. McKee was also sacked five times in the loss. The Eagles' sole touchdown in that game came courtesy of running back Saquon Barkley.

Milton will now take over as the quarterback who tries to lead the Eagles to snap their miserable losing streak. Ahead of his first start for the team this season, Eagles offensive tackle Jordan Mailata shared a blunt message about Milton.
"It is a [expletive] cannon. Oh my god, like, pardon my language," he said of Milton's arm. "You see it on TV, you hear about it when he was going through the draft. But then when you see it, it's a work of art."
"He's really a team guy. Very open, talks to everyone. It's a welcome sight because, you know, with everything going on, he brings a good light to it," Mailata said.
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert echoed Mailata's sentiments about that "cannon" of an arm, and said Milton's "excited to get out on the field and play" this weekend.
Milton entered the league in 2024 when the New England Patriots drafted him in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. He played in one game that season and completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown.
He joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2025, and he briefly played in four games that season. Milton racked up 183 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions across those appearances. He's never started in the league, however.
He'll now get his first-ever start in the NFL, presenting a major opportunity to help turn around their struggling season. A win over the NFC East-leading New York Giants could provide a much-needed boost for an Eagles team desperately trying to salvage its season amid injuries to several key players.
The Philadelphia Eagles host the New York Giants on Sunday, Nov. 8, at 1 p.m. ET.
