The Philadelphia Eagles suffered a 23-19 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the NFL playoffs, effectively ending their bid for a second consecutive Lombardi Trophy.

Since then, the Eagles have already fired offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, and additional significant changes could be on the horizon this offseason. One of the most discussed possibilities involves star wide receiver A.J. Brown, who showed visible frustration on several occasions throughout the season.

However, despite widespread speculation that Philadelphia could move on from Brown, he remains under contract through 2029. Addressing the rumors on Thursday, general manager Howie Roseman sent a clear message regarding Brown’s future with the organization.

“It’s hard to find great players in the NFL and A.J.’s a great player," Roseman said. "That’s what we’re going out and looking for, when we go out in free agency and the Draft, is trying to find great players who love football and he’s that guy. So that would be my answer.”

The Eagles will be done paying Brown his guaranteed money after the 2026 season, which significantly reduces the financial burden if Philadelphia were to ever consider moving on from him. While releasing Brown would be a shocking last-resort scenario given that he remains one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers, the more realistic path for a departure would be via trade.

If the Eagles do explore that option, there would be no shortage of interested teams on the market for an elite receiver this offseason. One team that continues to surface in rumors is the New England Patriots, who have the cap space to absorb Brown’s contract and could reunite him with former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel.
