The Miami Dolphins are hiring former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Haffley as their new head coach after firing Mike McDaniels.

The Dolphins have concluded an extensive head coach search on Monday, landing one of the hottest candidates in the NFL who had interviews with multiple teams.

Miami hired a new general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, to replace Chris Grier this month, who is also coming over from the Packers.

Sullivan and Hafley both spent the last two years together with the Packers, one as a coach and the other as an executive.

Hafley was interviewing with the Dolphins for the second time on Monday, and the organization did not let him leave the building before signing on to become the franchise's new head coach.

Before joining the Packers, Hafley was the head coach of Boston College, going 22-26 in four years. The school moved on to former Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien, and Hafley left for the NFL.

Additionally, Hafley has some other NFL coaching experience, serving as a defensive backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers from 2012 to 2018.

Considering his defensive roots, it will be interesting to see who he hires as his offensive coordinator. The position will be key if the Dolphins want to have success in year one of Hafley's regime.

Now that the coach and general manager are in place, the Dolphins are ready to turn the page on the Grier-McDaniels era and bring in the promise of new leadership and potential for success.

The Packers currently need a new defensive coordinator. Head coach Matt LaFleur has successfully filled this position before, but as an offensive-minded coach, he must make a strong hire to ensure the team's success moving forward.

Who was interested in Jeff Hafley?

The new Miami head coach had an in-person interview scheduled for Tuesday against the Tennessee Titans, though that will not be happening anymore. While he was a strong candidate for the Titans' job, it seemed they were looking for someone with previous NFL coaching experience.

Additionally, he had a second interview with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals, as well as a virtual interview with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He also had an interview with the Atlanta Falcons before they hired Kevin Stefanski.
