Coming into the 2026 NFL season, the vast majority of fans counted out the Cleveland Browns and quarterback Deshaun Watson. But on Sunday, Watson again showed up when it mattered most, helping the Browns come away with a win and entering an elite class of quarterback in the process.
Watson made the most of his final possession of the game in a tied game late in the fourth quarter, leading the Browns down the field and setting up a game-winning 32-yard field goal from kicker Andre Szymt.
This game-winning drive from Watson not only moves the Browns to 5-2 on the season and squarely in the mix near the top of the AFC. But it also continues an incredibly impressive trend of Watson rising to the occasion late in games for the Browns this season.

According to Dan Murphy, the Director of Communications of the Browns, Watson's latest game-winning drive marks the fifth game-winning drive led by him on the season thus far. The only other quarterbacks since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970 to lead game-winning drives in their team's first five wins of a season are Troy Aikman and Matthew Stafford.

To be in the same class as quarterbacks like Troy Aikman, a Hall of Famer, and Matthew Stafford, who could very well be a Hall of Famer as well when his career is all said and done, obviously speaks to the level of play we have seen from Watson thus far this season.
Watson will look to continue his impressive play going when the Browns take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8, who will be looking for revenge in the game given that their last loss came at the hands of the Browns in Week 4.
