The Denver Broncos are gearing up for Sunday's showdown against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game, but they will be playing that game without star second-year quarterback Bo Nix leading the way.

Jarrett Stidham will be the team's starting quarterback due to the ankle injury suffered by Nix on the second-to-last play of last week's game against the Buffalo Bills. That injury has lowered the expectation that the Broncos could fighting their way into the Super Bowl.

With that being said, Denver's front office is almost certainly already looking into what it can do to improve the team during the upcoming NFL offseason.

A new prediction has been shared that would see the Broncos invest even heavier into Nix's future. They have been projected to land a 2,000-yard playmaker to add more firepower into the offense.

Germie Bernard, Alabama, Denver Broncos

...

Sports Illustrated's Daniel Flick has come up with a new mock draft that has Denver spending the No. 31 overall pick on Alabama Crimson Tide standout wide receiver Germie Bernard.

"The Broncos enter this draft cycle needing help at receiver and tight end, but they’re in a bit of no-man’s land at No. 31. The five best wideouts in the class are off the board, and Sadiq is the lone tight end expected to go in the opening round," Flick wrote.

"Bernard, however, is a tremendous player. The 6' 1", 204-pounder was a versatile weapon for Alabama, as he was used as a gadget piece but has the route refinement, blocking skills and run-after-catch ability to be an outside receiver at the next level."

Bernard was one of the most underrated wide receivers in college football during the 2025 season. He was Ty Simpson's go-to target at Alabama, although his name was overshadowed by Ryan Williams.

Throughout the course of the season, Bernard racked up 64 receptions for 862 yards and seven touchdowns. In his four-year college career, Bernard totaled 155 catches for 2,203 yards and 13 touchdowns. He played his first season at Michigan State, his second year at Washington, and his final two with the Crimson Tide.

While the 2026 NFL Draft is still a long time from now, Bernard would make a lot of sense for the Broncos. He would give Nix a long-term weapon to build with and would provide a dynamic playmaking ability to an offense that could use more of it.
