The Carolina Panthers waived wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr., a sixth-round pick from the 2025 draft, on Tuesday.

Horn served as the Panthers' primary punt and kick returner. And during Sunday's Week 1 loss to the visiting Bears, he muffed a punt that ultimately led to a field goal for Chicago in the second quarter.

After beginning his college football career with two seasons at USF, Horn transferred to Colorado to join head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes. Coach Prime promised Horn's incarcerated biological father that he would look after Horn and treat him as his own son. The two shared a close bond, as Sanders walked Horn out onto the field for Colorado's senior night.

Sanders said he immediately called Horn after he was cut by the Panthers.

"I made some calls to him, immediately," Sanders said on Wednesday. "I love Jimmy. ... I hate questioning management, because I'm not there. But this kid is a great human being."
