Dallas Cowboys fans are getting disappointing news, as star linebacker Micah Parsons is still unable to play going into week 9.

Earlier today, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said of Micah Parsons, "He's here. He's in the meetings. Until they clear the return to play with [Cowboys director of rehab] Britt [Brown], I really don't even entertain that thought. So he's not quite there yet."

Parsons has missed four consecutive games with an ankle injury he suffered in week 4 during a match-up against the New York Giants. The Cowboys beat the Giants 20-15 but at the cost of losing a key member of their defensive team.

Yesterday, McCarthy sounded more optimistic about the chances of Parsons returning sooner rather than later, saying "He's an impact player. Where he is in the rehab, he's making gains each week. He's been in every day. He's just not ready to get into the practice format. But yeah, definitely missed him."

Twenty-four hours later, the Cowboys coach does not sound as confident about the chances of his player returning. Reportedly, Parsons is unable to even practice at this point.

Notably, Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland is also on the injured list, with a damaged foot incurred in the same game against the Giants. At this point, Dallas is missing a very significant amount of their defense team.

Parsons topped the NFL with 103 quarterback pressures last season. Throughout the Cowboys' three consecutive seasons with 12 wins from 2021 to 2023, they led the league in takeaways (93), interceptions (59), and quarterback pressure rate (41.4%). However, those statistics have significantly declined in 2024 with both Parsons and Bland out of action.

In addition to his league record last season, Parsons was named the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021 for his outstanding debut season with the Dallas Cowboys. Parsons has also earned Pro Bowl selections in both 2021 and 2022, recognizing him as one of the league's top players.

In his rookie season, he was named a First-Team All-Pro, highlighting his elite performance. He has received multiple NFL Defensive Player of the Month awards for his impactful play. During his time at Penn State, Parsons was a consensus All-American and garnered several All-Big Ten honors.

Bland, meanwhile, topped the NFL in 2023 with 9 interceptions and set a new single-season record for the most interceptions returned for touchdowns, achieving five. This accomplishment also tied Ken Houston's record for the most defensive touchdowns in a single season.

Dallas is probably very eager to get both players back on the field.
