Amid speculation on what the Washington Commanders will do with head coach Dan Quinn, there was speculation the team could be sellers before the trade deadline on Nov. 10.
The Commanders are coming off their bye in Week 7 with a 1-4-1 record. Washington chose to retain Quinn after the bye, but there is pressure on the third-year head coach to start winning games.
Per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Commanders were talking to league teams about potentially trading Daron Payne before the defensive tackle suffered a foot injury during Friday's practice that will end his season.

"The Commanders, we’re told, were talking to one or more teams about the terms of a potential trade for veteran defensive tackle Daron Payne," Florio wrote. "After he suffered a season-ending foot injury during practice on Friday, there will be no trade."

Florio made the argument that it's a risk for players to practice or play in games if teams are trying to trade them.
Payne, 29, recorded 14 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble through the first six weeks.
Payne is currently in the final year of his contract. The Commanders are now on the hook for his entire 2026 base salary of $16.4 million.
Because of the injury, the Commanders are unable to save money and gain draft capital by trading the Pro Bowl defensive tackle.
However, keeping Payne out of practice and theoretically out of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles would have been a signal to the rest of the locker room that the team was waving the white flag on the season. It would have also put Quinn in a tough predicament, asking him to coach his defense without one of his key starters.
To avoid the risk of Payne's injury before finalizing a trade, the Commanders could have opted to make a coaching change after the loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, putting Washington on the same page before taking drastic measures for the roster.
