The Washington Commanders announced on Friday that another injury has been added to their now Leo Tolstoy-novel-length list of injuries that the team has been suffering since the start of the NFL regular season.

Mike Garafolo said that defensive tackle Daron Payne suffered a significant foot injury that will knock him out for the foreseeable future.

Payne played all nine seasons of his professional career with Washington after being selected 13th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He is currently in the final year of his 4-year, $90 million contract.

He started six games and had 14 tackles, five quarterback hits and one sack this season.

The Commanders already ruled out DT Javon Kinlaw with a knee injury for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Questionable players include tight end John Bates, wide receiver Treylon Burks and DT Jer’Zhan Newton.

Professionals jumped into the conversation and expressed their sadness regarding Payne’s injury, and also pointed out that it puts a giant question mark on his trade stock and any playoff hopes for Washington.

“Daron Payne was a name to watch at the trade deadline but this injury likely takes him out of play there for the Commanders and other teams,” Garafolo added.
