Along with the ongoing saga with Terry McLaurin, the Washington Commanders now have another situation to deal with regarding a homegrown talent. That being running back Brian Robinson Jr, who has reportedly been made available in trade talks ahead of the 2025 season.
Robinson has been a key piece to the Commanders' offense over the past three years. However, based on recent reporting, it looks as though his time with the franchise is coming to an end.
Being in the final year of his contract certainly hurts Robinson's value, but Washington still might be able to get some form of return for him. The 26-year-old is coming off a 2024 season where he posted over 950 yards from scrimmage and scored eight touchdowns.

Commanders coach Dan Quinn speaks on Brian Robinson's absence from practice

On Monday night, the Commanders squared off against the Cincinnati Bengals in preseason action. Among the main storylines for Washington that evening was about those who weren't in attendance. Along with McLaurin, Robinson was also absent in light of the recent rumors surrounding him.
This departure from the team stretched to Wednesday, as Robinson didn't attend practice as well. That said, this decision was viewed as the best decision from both sides.
According to insider Ben Standig, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn stated that Robinson's absence was excused as the franchise works out his future.

With the team allowing him to be away now, it looks like the writing is on the wall for Robinson. Now all he can do is wait and see where his NFL journey will take him next.
A trade is the Commanders' desired outcome when it comes to Robinson, but they are keeping all their options open. Earlier this week, ESPN's John Keim reported that if a deal doesn't surface Washington will opt to cut the former third-round pick.
"The Commanders could end up trying to trade Robinson over the next several days, one league source said," Keim wrote. "If they don't find a suitor, Washington could end up cutting Robinson, its primary back the past three seasons."
As a dual-threat back, Robinson is a player who could fit on most teams across the NFL. Question is if a team will be willing to part with assets for him due to his impending free agency.
