Just days ago, Indianapolis Colts fans were rejoicing when the team placed the rarely used transition tag on quarterback Daniel Jones, which allows the Colts to match any offer Jones could be presented from another interested team.
But now, the fan base seemingly turned on the 28-year-old signal-caller after learning of the outrageous salary demands Jones countered with during his negotiations with the team.
According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, Indianapolis offered Jones a deal in the range of $33.5 million per year, which he rejected and countered with an offer that would make him the 12th-highest paid QB in the NFL, right behind Justin Herbert, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts, and would pay him more than Patrick Mahomes and Matthew Stafford.

“The Colts’ initial offer to Jones was in the range of Sam Darnold’s three-year, $100.5 million deal last offseason,” Breer reported. “Jones’s camp countered that, based on the leverage a franchise tag would have given him, a deal worth $50 million per year would be more in the ballpark of what he’d take if he did a deal before this week.”
After Breer’s report came out, Colts fans took to social media to make it known they wanted Jones back but after hearing his wild salary demands, many were quick to urge the front office to move on from him while roasting him on the way out.

“I like DJ but I would absolutely let him go for that price and just roll the dice with AR or sign someone else. No one is going to pay him that. It’s honestly disrespectful and disappointing that he would even ask for that after the Colts giving him an opportunity,” one fan wrote.
“I would rather go 0-17 with (LSU QB Garrett) Nussmeier than pay him that money,” another retorted.
“Let him [expletive] walk. He ain't worth all that,” a third fan scoffed.
“Let him walk if that's the case. No chance he is worth even 75% of that number. No. Chance,” one user noted.

“Holy [expletive] let him walk. A few weeks of good football and this dude thinks he’s [expletive] Patrick Mahomes,” remarked another user.
“lol. Greedy Jones. That’s what he did to the Giants. He wouldn’t allow them to build a good team around him and we saw what happened. He was horrible. Colts have a good team and they made him look good. Now he wants to get overpaid again,” another fan griped.
Breer did note that he does believe Jones wants to stay put, though eventually finding some middle ground on a deal will involve some serious compromise on the QB’s part.
