Darius Slayton’s run in Indianapolis is over, and the veteran never played a down for the Colts.

The Indianapolis Colts announced the release of the 29-year-old wide receiver on Oct. 16. He’d signed with Indianapolis on Sept. 22, so the stay lasted 24 days and ended without a single game appearance.

NBC Sports’ Zachary Krueger noted that Indianapolis briefly viewed Slayton as an option to fill in for Alec Pierce, who is dealing with a foot injury.

His own knee then became a problem, and the Colts scratched him from their Week 5 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Indianapolis was already Slayton’s second team of 2026. The New York Giants re-signed him in 2025 on a three-year, $36 million deal, then let him go soon after training camp.

That ended a seven-year stay in New York. The Giants drafted Slayton in the fifth round from Auburn in 2019 and gave him a four-year, $2,753,988 rookie deal carrying a $233,988 signing bonus, with $233,988 guaranteed.

A restructuring later trimmed his salary from $2.54 million to $965,000, the NFL minimum. In 2023, he hit unrestricted free agency and came back to New York on a two-year, $12 million contract.

Slayton played 14 games for New York in 2025, hauling in 37 of 63 targets, good for 538 yards and a touchdown.

Over 106 games and 78 starts, the 6-1, 198-pound receiver has piled up 296 receptions for 4,435 yards and 22 touchdowns. That’s 15.0 yards a catch, and Indianapolis never got to see one. He’s a free agent again.
