The Los Angeles Chargers are a team looking for any possible answers offensively as they head into Week 9 looking for their first win of the NFL season.

Coming into the year, expectations were quite high for the Chargers offense. Not only has quarterback Justin Herbert shown flashes of brilliance of the course of his seven-year NFL career. But first-year Chargers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel has a track record of putting dynamic offenses out on the field during his time with the Miami Dolphins.

To say McDaniel's tenure in Los Angeles thus far has been a disappointment would be an understatement. Currently, the Chargers have both a bottom-five offense in both points per game and yards per game, as well as committing the most turnovers in football.

The drastic struggles of the Chargers offense has led to many calling for McDaniel to be relieved of his duties. Instead, the Chargers hope that a change of scenery for McDaniel could lead to improved results offensively.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, McDaniel told reporters that after discussing the possibility with head coach Jim Harbaugh, he plans to call plays from the booth instead of doing so on the sidelines.

"One of the things I talked with coach about was to call plays from the box to see adjustments for myself and communicate with the position coaches appropriately," said McDaniel. "That's the latest in things. I think that is more tangible because I won't be in the same spot. My problem solving doesn't come from insecurity. So I'm being very open-minded with all things. Not trying to prove or justify anything that leads to underwhelming results. I think we’re going to try that this week. Seems like a good action to take based on how things have gone this year."

On paper, it does seem like a wider view of the field could allow for McDaniel to get more looks at how his team can adjust to what defenses are doing to prepare for his offense.

That being said, it sure seems like the Chargers offensive struggles go far deeper than where McDaniel is position in the stadium when calling plays.

Whether McDaniel's new plan to call plays from the box upstairs ultimately helps or not, it sure seems like urgency is at an all-time high for him if he wants to make it through this season with a job with the Chargers. So it will be interesting to see whether he can make the adjustments necessary to put his offense in a position to succeed.

Sunday's matchup between the Chargers and the Houston Texans will kick off at 4:05 p.m. ET and can be viewed on CBS.
