The Arizona Cardinals trailed the Dallas Cowboys by 14 points at the end of the third quarter on Sunday with starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett in the game. He threw one interception and zero touchdowns before Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur benched him for backup Gardner Minshew.
Minshew was making his season debut as a Cardinal when he entered in Sunday's game, and he delivered. Minshew led the Cardinals on four consecutive touchdown drives (three receiving touchdowns) to eventually tie the game 30-30. Arizona won in overtime thanks to a field goal made. He finished his debut by completing 17 of 23 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
It was clear Minshew outshined Brissett by a landslide on Sunday. Benching Brissett for Minshew was the best decision LaFleur could've made to win that ball game.

And, it sounds like LaFleur wants to stick with that decision. On Monday, LaFleur announced to reporters that Minshew will be the Cardinals' starting quarterback moving forward. Minshew will get his first start on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

On top of that, Brissett was demoted all the way to the third-string emergency quarterback position. Rookie Carson Beck, who hasn't made his NFL debut, will sit as the backup quarterback.
As for why Beck was named the backup over Brissett, this is what LaFleur had to say on Monday. The rookie's been dealing with back spasms this season.
"I just think that's the right thing to do, continue his development in terms of getting a little more reps with the scout team and all that," LaFleur said. "He's week-to-week, but he's feeling really good right now."
With Brissett's downgrade, the quarterback now opens up as a possible trade target ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 10 deadline. There's plenty of teams dealing with quarterback issues right now (Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, etc.) because of recent injuries, so they could potentially be interested in shopping for Brissett.
