Beyond getting benched, Cam Skattebo got another wake-up call when the New York Giants released Najee Harris.

The Giants released Harris two days after he started their Week 6 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Pro Bowl running back, who gained just two yards on four carries, said after the game that a limited workload in a backfield committee made it "hard to get into a rhythm."

Skattebo reacted to the Giants cutting Harris on Friday, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

"Nobody's safe. It's as simple as that," Skattebo said. "I think when we go on the field and we perform, if we're not performing, we understand there's a possibility of not being here. If I don't perform, I know there's a possibility of me not being here. We came in this week. We continue to work. We know where we're at, we know what we have, and if we put that to display, we're going to be just fine."

Harris' release could mean more carries for Skattebo, who didn't touch the ball on Sunday. Giants head coach John Harbaugh benched the second-year pro following a costly overtime fumble in their Week 5 tie with the Washington Commanders.

Skattebo, who has fumbled four times this season, also received a loud-and-clear message from that move.

"It's been good, you know. I think I got taught a lesson," Skattebo said. "I don't know if that's from them or from myself, but I kind of had to step back and look at it and figure out why I was doing the things I was doing, what was happening. Came to practice, corrected those things, worked on them. Ready to go back out there and play ball."

Skattebo could return to New York's backfield rotation when the Giants play the Houston Texans this Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
