Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen will look to strengthen his case to repeat as the NFL MVP when he takes the field on Thursday night against the Houston Texans. Ahead of the game, Allen's reputation received a huge boost from Fox Sports host Colin Cowherd, who ranked him favorably among the elite players to ever play the game of football.

Week in and week out, Allen makes a play that some of the great quarterbacks in the history of football likely would have had a hard time replicating.

While Allen doesn't have the team accomplishments that some of his peers at the quarterback position like Tom Brady and Joe Montana have just yet, his talent as a rusher and a passer make him one of the more unique players to ever play the position.

Colin Cowherd has taken notice of Allen's exceptional abilities, making the incredibly bold claim on Thursday morning that the reigning MVP is among the top five players that he has ever seen play in the NFL. Additionally, Cowherd believes that Allen is currently the best player in all of football.

"I want to talk about Josh Allen," said Cowherd. "He is the best football player, to me, on the planet. He is one of the five best football players I have ever seen. Lawrence Taylor is in that group. Jerry Rice, probably in that group. Remember last year everyone was talking about Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen MVP controversy? Let me put it in perspective. Just this year, in the past two months, the Bills are 5-0 when Josh has three or more touchdowns. Yet, they are 0-3 when he scores three or fewer touchdowns.

"They literally need him to score three touchdowns minimum, in the last two months, for Josh Allen to just help Buffalo win a game. No franchise that I ever remember has been this quarterback dependent. This year, the Ravens started Tyler Huntley in a game. Scored 30 points and beat the 7-3 Chicago Bears. Looked really good with Tyler Huntley. Just think about how valuable Josh Allen is."

It's certainly hard not to factor Allen's lack of winning a Super Bowl when you judge him against some of the all-time greats to play the position.

That being said, Allen is undoubtedly one of the most athletically gifted players in the history of the sport. So if he does ultimately find a way to win a Super Bowl over the course of his career, it will certainly be hard to keep him out of the conversation as one of the best players in the history of the NFL when it is all said and done.
