Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin went to social media after news broke of his longtime teammate Mike Evans departing in free agency.
Evans, once the Buccaneers' star wideout, has agreed to sign with the San Francisco 49ers after spending his whole career with the Buccaneers. Godwin posted a sad emoji in reaction to the news.
They played together for nine seasons in Tampa Bay and formed one of the most dynamic wide receiver duos in the league. Evans and Godwin also helped the Buccaneers win a Super Bowl in 2020 when former quarterback Tom Brady was throwing passes to them.

Evans became one of the greatest players of all time in Buccaneers history with 866 receptions for 13,052 yards and 108 touchdowns. He holds an NFL record 11 consecutive 1,000-yard seasons to start his career.
Evans made second-team All-Pro twice in 2016 and 2023, and he made six Pro Bowls between 2016 and 2024. The Buccaneers drafted Evans with the No. 7 pick out of Texas A&M.
Godwin came along in 2017 when the Buccaneers took him with a third-round pick out of Penn State. He became the team’s second go-to receiver and paired effectively with Evans, whether it was Brady, former quarterback Jameis Winston, or Baker Mayfield throwing them the ball.
Godwin has 612 receptions for 7,626 yards and 41 touchdowns in his career. While Evans is off to another bay in the NFL, Godwin won’t need to shoulder the receiving load.

The Buccaneers found a breakout star in wide receiver Emeka Egbuka last season, a first-round pick from Ohio State. As a rookie, Egubka tallied 938 yards and six touchdowns amid 63 receptions.
He quickly became one of Mayfield’s favorite targets in the process. That said, Evans didn’t have those kinds of numbers last season as he missed nine games due to injury and tallied just 30 receptions for 368 yards and three touchdowns.
