The Cleveland Browns have not had the best of luck with quarterbacks. In fact, they have been downright terrible when it comes to their starters being hurt or simply not working out.

In total, the Browns are paying eight quarterbacks in 2025, despite only having three on the roster currently. Dillon Gabriel is making $1.1 million, Shedeur Sanders is making $955,000, and Bailey Zappe is making $315,000.
The rest are no longer on the roster, apart from Deshaun Watson, who remains on the physically unable to perform list. His cap hit is a staggering $35.9 million.

Jameis Winston is with the New York Giants and has a $2.2 million dead cap hit from when he was on the Browns in 2024, Joe Flacco was traded to the Cincinnati Bengals, but carries a $999,000 cap hit, Dorian Thompson-Robinson carries $171,000 in dead cap from the 2023 and 2024 season, and Kenny Pickett carries $8,000 post his trade to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Simply put, the Browns have continued to showcase why they nearly carried four quarterbacks into the 2025 season. That was not the case, and only two of those quarterbacks remain on the roster.
The good news is the Browns have two first-round picks in 2026, and they could use both or either to secure a true franchise quarterback. Or the team can continue to see what Gabriel can do as a starter, and give Sanders a shot at starting at some point.
Either way, the Browns need to solve their quarterback problem, or their dead cap hit in 2026 will continue to grow.
