The Buffalo Bills’ head coaching search just got a little more turbulent.

After interviewing current offensive coordinator Joe Brady, former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, and former Colts quarterback Philip Rivers, the Bills had one prominent candidate cancel his interview with them, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

“Update: Mike McDaniel pulled out of his scheduled meeting down in Florida with the Bills yesterday, I’m told, and the two sides never met,” Russini wrote. “McDaniel remains in contention for the Raiders’ head coaching job, but if he takes an OC position, it’s still expected to be with the Chargers.”

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo added: “Mike McDaniel nixed a second interview, this time with the #Bills after withdrawing from the #Browns’ search. Could conceivably still meet with Buffalo but nothing on the schedule as of now.”

McDaniel already accepted a job as the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers, though the team is allowing him to still pursue head coaching opportunities.

In four seasons as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, McDaniel compiled a 35-33 record with two playoff appearances. He was fired after a 7-10 season this year.

Considered one of the top offensively innovative minds in the NFL, McDaniel was highly sought-after among teams looking for a new offensive coordinator.

He landed with Jim Harbaugh in L.A., where he’ll work with Pro Bowl QB Justin Herbert and take over an offense that ranked 12th in total offense (333.8 yards per game) and 20th in scoring (21.6 points per game).
