The Buffalo Bills entered NFL free agency needing aggressive roster tinkering amid tough cap decisions and questions about which veterans would stay as the team balanced short-term competitiveness with long-term flexibility.
One of those questions centered on tight end Dawson Knox, a trusted red-zone weapon whose 2026 cap number had many in Buffalo wondering whether he would remain in Western New York.
Knox was slated to carry a cap hit north of $17 million in 2026, including a $12 million salary that ranked among the league’s 10 highest for tight ends.

That conversation changed on Tuesday when multiple outlets reported Knox agreed to a new three-year deal to remain in a Bills uniform.
The new contract matters immediately because it resolves a thorny cap issue while stabilizing a position group that has been an on-and-off focal point for the offense.
With Knox previously facing a sizable 2026 cash number, the reworked deal gives Buffalo clarity on how to structure its roster and payroll heading into the draft and the rest of free agency, while ensuring Josh Allen keeps one of his most trusted targets.

Since being drafted in 2019, Knox has built a steady résumé in Buffalo.
Entering the new deal, he owns 229 career receptions for 2,694 yards and 27 touchdowns, along with a Pro Bowl selection in 2022.
Those numbers help explain why the Bills have repeatedly chosen continuity over moving on from a veteran tight end who has delivered in key moments.
In 2025, Knox produced a modest but efficient line of 36 receptions for 417 yards and four touchdowns, operating more as a high-efficiency option than a volume target.

His on-field chemistry with Josh Allen has long been evident, but the connection extends well beyond football.
Knox has described Allen as “like a brother, a best friend,” reflecting how close the two have become since entering the league together in Buffalo.
That relationship carries into their personal lives as well.
Knox was part of Allen’s wedding party in 2025, serving as a groomsman when the quarterback married actress Hailee Steinfeld.
