The NFL free agency period was packed with twists and turns, but that period also brought some stunning trade deals.

One of those trades was between the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills, with the Bills receiving wide receiver DJ Moore and a 2026 fifth-round pick, while the Bears snagged a 2026 second-round pick.

Looking at this arrangement, did the Chicago Bears or Buffalo Bills come out on top in this trade deal? Here's what the NFL experts and analysts have to say.

In a Wednesday, March 18 feature for ESPN, Seth Walder actually gives the Bills a D grade for their trade deal. That's harsh. Plus, he actually gives the Bears an A for the trade.

"You can understand how the Bills got to this point," he notes. "They have an all-world quarterback but have failed to surround him with enough receiving talent and wanted to rectify that issue."

But, in the end, he says, "Ultimately, I think the Bills' instinct at wide receiver is correct. But to pay real draft capital for the right to take on what is likely an overpriced contract and add extra guarantees is far from optimal."

On a brighter note, in a Tuesday, March 17 feature for CBS Sports, Jordan Dajani also discusses the NFL offseason moves.

"This NFL offseason has already been a wild one, as we witnessed an uptick in trades during free agency," he notes in the piece. "Certain teams were looking to shed salary in order to get under the set cap number, while other teams were looking to buy talent ahead of the free agency firestorm."

When it comes to the Bills and Bears trade, he notes that the trade grades were a B- for the Bills and B for the Bears. So, that's not nearly as bad for the Bills.

"Joe Brady is bringing in a veteran wide receiver to help Josh Allen, as Buffalo sent a second-round pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for Moore and a fifth-round pick," he states in the piece. "Moore was always viewed as a trade candidate this offseason, but not many expected the Bears to net this kind of return given the wideout's contract."

He adds, "Moore is signed through 2029. As part of the trade, the Bills will guarantee $15.5 million of his 2028 base salary, his agents told ESPN. Moore's $23.5 million salary for 2026 is already fully guaranteed, and his 2027 salary becomes guaranteed next week."
