The Cincinnati Bengals are working out veteran running back Leonard Fournette to see if they can get some extra push in the backfield. Cincinnati lost starting running back Zack Moss, possibly for the year, so the front office feels the need to bring in some help.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported the news on social media.

Cincinnati made a rare trade deadline deal to land running back Khalil Herbert from the Chicago Bears but the team wants more veteran experience from the backfield. Herbert and Chase Brown are good pieces but Fournette could help fully round out the backfield as Cincinnati tries for a late-season playoff push.
Fournette spent last season with the Buffalo Bills, rushing for just 40 yards. He only appeared in two games with Buffalo before being released in January.
Cincinnati is hoping that he can provide a spark for them in the backfield if he were to sign with them. Since entering the league, Fournette has been a bruising rusher in the NFL and could give the Bengals a strong goal-line presence.
Fournette was drafted No. 4 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars out of LSU back in the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Jaguars before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In Tampa Bay, he played alongside former star quarterback Tom Brady. The Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in the 2020-21 season, taking down the Kansas City Chiefs in the big game.
Fournette was a massive part of the Super Bowl win, rushing for 89 yards and scoring one touchdown. He also caught four passes for 46 yards in the Buccaneers' rout of Kansas City.
Fournette isn't the only veteran player that the Bengals are trying to sign. They are also hosting cornerback Xavien Howard to help bolster their defense for the stretch run.

The Bengals currently hold a record of 4-6 on the season but find themselves just outside the wild-card playoff picture. Despite all the issues that this team has seen this year, the playoffs aren't fully outside of the realm of possibility.
Cincinnati plays a couple of teams who are directly ahead of them in the standings such as the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers. If they are able to get wins in those games, the postseason could be well within reach.
