Baltimore Ravens head coach Jesse Minter needs to address a glaring weakness in the team’s defense in his first season at the helm. Creating a reliable pass rush is paramount for the former defensive coordinator.

Fortunately, Minter has a connection with one of the top edge rushers available on the market. Veteran linebacker Khalil Mack is now a free agent and spent the past two seasons with Minter on the Los Angeles Chargers.

Mack, 35, recently confirmed that he will play football in 2026, making his talents highly sought after this offseason. The Chargers are expected to make re-signing Mack a priority, but the Ravens might be able to steal him away.

Edge rusher is the biggest need for Baltimore in free agency, ESPN’s Jamison Hensley wrote. Hensley suggested that Mack’s connection to the new Ravens coach might spark a reunion.

“Last year, the Ravens recorded 30 sacks, their fewest in 15 years,” Hensley wrote. “Last season also marked the first time since 1996 that Baltimore didn't have an edge rusher with more than 4.5 sacks. Plus, their two most experienced outside linebackers -- Kyle Van Noy and Dre'Mont Jones -- are free agents. Could Baltimore reunite Khalil Mack with new Ravens coach Jesse Minter?”

Mack is likely bound for the Hall of Fame when his playing days are over. His illustrious career includes nine Pro Bowl appearances, three first-team All-Pro selections and a Defensive Player of the Year award in 2016.

Last season, Mack collected 32 tackles, 5.5 sacks and six tackles for loss in 12 games for the Chargers. Even at age 35, Mack can be a decent force on the edge for a Ravens group that needs more production.

The Ravens need to make moves to clear some cap space, such as restructuring QB Lamar Jackson’s contract, to retain key pieces and add new ones, but Mack could come at a fair price given his age. If 2026 is Mack’s final season in the NFL, it could be worthwhile for Baltimore to give him a final contract.
