Pittsburgh has a 2.5-game lead over the Bengals for first place in the AFC North. A win over Cincinnati on Thursday night would give the Steelers a commanding 3.5-game lead in the division.

The gamble by Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin to sign Rodgers appears to be working out. But the newfound success might not last beyond the postseason.

Dan Graziano of ESPN gives a five percent chance of Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh in 2026.

"It's this low because Rodgers has basically said this will be his final year," Grazano said. "It's this high because people sometimes change their minds or don't really mean the things they say. Everything is going quite well for Rodgers in Pittsburgh, where he's playing on a one-year, $14.15 million deal.

"But he does turn 42 years old in December, and it would stand to reason that he'd at least be considering retirement, even if he might eventually change his mind."

During an appearance on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show in June, Rodgers suggested 2025 would be his final year in the NFL.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it," said Rodgers. "That's why we just did a one-year deal. Steelers didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything, so this was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I've had."

Rodgers isn't showing the same quarterback skills he had in 2021 when he won his fourth and final league MVP with the Green Bay Packers. But he's playing impressive football this fall, throwing for 1,021 yards, 10 touchdowns and three Interceptions before Week 7.

He's playing much better than he did with the New York Jets last season, when there was chatter he should retire after the 2024 campaign.

It'll be interesting to see if Rodgers still wants to retire after playing as well as he has through his first five games. He still has more to give to the game if he wants to.
