NFL free agency is about to begin, and plenty of star players are working the phones to attempt to sway impending free agents to join their team.

The San Francisco 49ers should be very active in free agency this season. With some money to spend and big holes to fill, the 49ers are linked to several high-profile free agents.

Perhaps the biggest link between a particular free agent and the team is Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs. Many NFL insiders have speculated that Doubs would be interested in signing with the 49ers, with NFL analyst Josh Taylor calling the pairing one of the “worst kept secrets in free agency right now.”

49ers star cornerback Deommodore Lenoir is doing his part to fuel the speculation. Lenoir posted on his Instagram story, addressing rumors about Doubs and his team, and offered a message for Doubs to consider once free agency begins.

Lenoir wrote “LA Demos reunite” on his Instagram story and tagged Doubs in the post. While Lenoir is clearly in favor of the proposed signing, the 49ers should be as well. The team is set to clear plenty of money off the books by trading or releasing WR Brandon Aiyuk after the team’s relationship with the receiver soured last season, leading to his contract being voided.

The 49ers could also lose a string of receivers to free agency at the start of the league year, including Jauan Jennings, Kendrick Bourne and Skyy Moore. That leaves the often-injured Ricky Pearsall and veteran Demarcus Robinson as the top wideouts left in red and gold.

Doubs, 25, was a fourth-round pick by the Packers in 2022 and, as Lenoir hinted at, does have a history with the 49ers’ defensive back. Lenoir, 26, and Doubs were both raised in Los Angeles and began their football journeys there. Lenoir played at Bishop Mora Salesian High School, while Doubs starred at Thomas Jefferson High School.

It would be in the best interests of both sides to reach a deal and compete in a stacked NFC West again next season against the Los Angeles Rams and the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
