It's been a while since the San Francisco 49ers last saw Brandon Aiyuk on the field. The disgruntled wide receiver is back to full strength, but he's burned all bridges back to the organization.

However, that doesn't mean the team is desperate to get rid of him. If anything, they don't want to do him any favors, and they're not going down without a fight.

According to NFL insider Dianna Russini, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that the team will only get him go if they can get fair value in return, even if that means waiting:

"49ers HC Kyle Shahanan said the team hopes the team can get something in return for WR Brandon Aiyuk. He said he's not sure when that might take place, 'I know we're in no rush to do that,'" Russini wrote on X.

Aiyuk has some obvious ties to the Washington Commanders, given his friendship with former college teammate Jayden Daniels. He'd be an immediate pickup in the nation's capital if he were to be released.

As such, the Niners, which have no financial incentive to let him go without getting something in return, would probably rather have him sit or even be away from the team.

Aiyuk had already tried to force his way out of the Bay Area before getting a new contract with the Niners. He flirted with the Pittsburgh Steelers and shut down multiple trade opportunities to other teams before ultimately getting an extension.

The joy was short-lived, though, as he suffered a season-ending injury early in the campaign. He's been more of a headache for the organization since, so it only makes sense that they at least want something for their trouble.

Whether any other team will be inclined to make an offer, however, remains to be seen.
