The San Francisco 49ers will not be playing at their home stadium for Super Bowl LX, but they did receive some good news before either the Seattle Seahawks or Los Angeles Rams booked their ticket to the championship on Sunday.

Klay Kubiak, who climbed the 49ers ladder from a defensive quality coach in 2021 to now the team's offensive coordinator, drew interest from multiple teams to interview for their head coach openings.

The strongest link was to the Las Vegas Raiders, who have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft this coming April, and could have been an intriguing destination for the 37-year-old.

But after taking time to survey his options, Kubiak has withdrawn his name from being in contention for any positions this offseason, per The Athletic's senior NFL insider Dianna Russini.

Instead, he will focus on his second year as 49ers OC and learn more under Kyle Shanahan, and then look to possible head coaching offers during next season's carousel.

A former college quarterback for the Colorado State Rams, Kubiak was given one of the most challenging jobs this season due to the number of injuries that plagued the San Francisco offense from day one to the very last snap of the season against the Seahawks in the postseason.

Not only did Kubiak have to juggle a starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, who missed multiple weeks, but his wide receiver room was torn apart by injuries, melodrama, and dysfunction. His most reliable set of hands, George Kittle, his tight end, then suffered a season-ending injury in their opening playoff win against the reigning champions, Philadelphia.

Although it was a rough first year for Kubiak as OC, it showed his ability to navigate a roster that wasn't always at its best but consistently outperformed the sum of its parts.

With hopefully a healthier offense next season, Kubiak could set himself up as one of the premier names to land a head coaching role in 2027.
