Sure, everyone is focusing on the high-stakes “Holy War” between the No. 3 Utah Utes (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) and the No. 6/7 BYU Cougars (7-1, 4-1 Big 12) and while everyone has been going deaf from the Utah crowd, the Utes managed to nab an insanely impressive stat.

According to ESPN, Utah has outscored its opponents 103-9 in the first quarter this season.

“The Utes +94 point differential and 9 points allowed in the opening quarter leads all of FBS,” ESPN Insights posted on X.

Right now, Utah’s offense is the most efficient in the country at 6.9 yards per play, thanks to running back Wayshawn Parker who had 726 yards and nine touchdowns on 109 carries going into the “Holy War” showdown. They’ve also turned the ball over eight times in the last four games, which BYU could profit off.

This is the 104th meeting between the Cougars and the Utes, with a rivalry that goes all the way back into the 1800’s.

“Whether it was the origins of the university or a public dislike for each other, there are reasons for Utah to feel the way it feels about BYU,” Roundtable Sports reported about the origins of the “Holy War.” “In 1850, the namesake of BYU, Brigham Young, founded both BYU and the University of Utah. The LDS Church connection did not last long. In 1892, the Territorial Legislature officially renamed the school to the University of Utah.”
