The Texas Longhorns are spiraling in October after a hot start to the season that saw the program defeat Ohio State at home in Week 2.

A month later, the Longhorns are on a two-game losing streak that is reaching a level of historical collapse. Texas' offense struggled in a 27-24 loss to Oklahoma in the "Red River Rivalry" in Week 6. Given the notable issues with Florida's secondary this season, the Longhorns had an opportunity to have a get right game for Arch Manning against the Gators on Saturday.

After taking a quick 17-3 lead on Florida, the Longhorns offense sputtered. Manning finished the day going 14 of 20 passing for 173 yards and one touchdown in a 27-24 loss to UF. He had a critical strip-sack lost fumble in the fourth quarter.

Texas was outgained 313-272 in total yards by a Florida team that gave true freshman Tramell Jones Jr. his first start amid Aaron Philo's injury.

Texas should tumble in the rankings from its No. 7 spot after the loss to Florida. Per Chris Hummer of CBS Sports, the Longhorns became the first program to enter a game as the No. 1 team in the Associated Press' rankings and lose two consecutive games against unranked teams since Michigan State did so in 1961.

"Last week, No. 1 Texas lost against unranked Oklahoma," Hummer posted on X. "This week, No. 7 Texas lost against unranked Florida. Texas is the 1st team since 1961 Michigan State to enter a game as AP No. 1 and then lose its next two games in a row against unranked opponents, per CBS research."

Per Hummer, Texas also became the first program in the AP top 10 since 2003 to lose twice in a row after having a double-digit lead against unranked opponents.

The Longhorns will next host No. 9 Ole Miss in Week 8. They'll need to win that game to remain in the College Football Playoff conversation after a disastrous start to October.
