Former Baylor head coach Dave Aranda could join an SEC program soon.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, LSU is working to add Aranda in an analyst-type role. Zenitz said on Thursday that Aranda is currently in Baton Rouge.

Before joining Baylor, Aranda served as LSU's defensive coordinator and later associate head coach from 2016-19. He played a big role in the Tigers' national championship run in 2019, which led to him joining Baylor in 2020.

Baylor fired Aranda in late October after the team lost to Kansas. It put the Bears at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play.

During his nearly seven seasons at Baylor, Aranda posted a 40-40 record and a 26-32 record in the conference. He had just two winning seasons, including a 12-2 mark in 2021. During that season, Baylor won the Big 12 and the Sugar Bowl.

Baylor AD Says Dave Aranda Is a 'Gifted Coach'

"Anyone who knows Dave Aranda understands what a genuine and honorable person he is and how much he deeply cares for his players, staff, and this University," Baylor athletic director Doug McNamee said after the team fired Aranda. "He is a gifted coach and a brilliant football mind whose leadership brought some of our best Baylor football memories.

"While this is a difficult moment, we believe a change in leadership is necessary at this time for our program. We will forever be thankful to Dave and his family for their time here at Baylor, and we wish them well."

If Aranda joins the LSU staff, he would be reunited with former Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron. In May, LSU hired Orgeron to be a special assistant to recruiting and defense under head coach Lane Kiffin.
