Nakos reported that Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is one of the "names to know" in the coaching search on Thursday.

Hafley coached Boston College from 2020 to 2023, going 22-26 during his four years with the program. He left BC for the Packers to become Joe Barry's replacement under head coach Matt LaFleur.

Hafley told Adam Breneman of CBS Sports Network in 2024 that he left Boston College for the NFL because he was tired of juggling duties as a general manager outside of coaching the team.

“Now that I’m the ‘general manager’ and you’re trying to manage ‘the cap’ and you don’t really know what the cap is and now you’re fundraising,” Hafley said. “I mean I want to coach football. I want to coach more defense than I did last year and now it’s just prioritizing again. I got to coach again.

"I miss coaching DBs, but how am I going to do that and that’s what I need to figure out.”

As an elite Big Ten school, PSU might have a better structure for Hafley than what Boston College could offer. The Nittany Lions could have a general manager take care of the roster while Hafley deals with more traditional roles.
