Oklahoma Sooners fans added insult to the injury during the first half of their devastating 42-25 loss against the South Carolina Gamecocks – with bitter chants to fire a member of the team’s coaching staff.
When OU trailed 28-10 at halftime, fans started calling for offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to be fired and drowned Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in “Fire Arbuckle” chants.

The chants came after quarterback John Mateer was sacked for a 4-yard loss on 3rd-and-10. Kicker Tate Sandell was able to make a 52-yard field goal following the sack.
“Oklahoma’s offense has been among the worst in Power Four this season,” USA Today reported. “The Sooners entered Week 9 ranked No. 115 of 138 teams nationally in total offense, averaging 333.7 yards per game. Only five teams in Power Four rank lower than the Sooners in total offense, four of which are in the Big Ten.”
The win was emphatic for the Gamecocks with quarterback LaNorris Sellers passing for 301 yards with three touchdowns while the defense limited the Sooners to 118 yards and 10 points through three quarters.
That very No. 115 Oklahoma offense finally came alive during the fourth quarter with Mateer throwing two scoring passes to Ivan Carreon, but it wasn’t enough to save the game.
