On Wednesday, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel announced head coach Sherrone Moore was fired for cause following an inappropriate relationship with an unnamed staff member.
“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” a statement from Manuel read.
After Michigan's decision to fire Moore, college football insider Josh Pate suggested the Wolverines knew of accusations against the head coach and waited to fire him.

“When they lost against USC, clock was ticking, this was already bubbling behind the scenes by then,” Pate said on his “Josh Pate’s College Football Show” YouTube channel. “This is one of those really interesting dynamics where there was a wild rumor circulating behind the scenes, and it was accurate. This is what myself and several other people had heard a month ago...Let me put it this way: Agents have expected the Michigan job to be coming open for several weeks now. That’s been expected behind the scenes.”
If Michigan knew about the allegations against Moore for weeks, why the abrupt decision to fire him on Wednesday night? According to longtime Michigan insider John U. Bacon, the employee Moore allegedly had an "inappropriate" relationship with suddenly "flipped" her account that no relationship between the two existed.
"UM conducted an internal investigation, interviewing both Moore and the employee (separately, I presume), this summer. Both said, 'No how and no way' anything was happening between them, which didn't give UM much to go on. Her account flipped yesterday morning," Bacon reported.
Michigan announced Biff Poggi as the team's interim head coach following Moore's firing.
