Fresh off an appearance in the national championship game, the Miami Hurricanes are reaping the benefit of their recent success.
The team pulled off a heist in landing transfer quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate from ACC rival Duke this offseason, and the Hurricanes are building for the future with an impressive 2027 recruiting class.
Miami scored another big win on Friday when five-star cornerback A’mir Sears, the No. 2-ranked player in the state of Florida and No. 11 overall recruit in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings, announced his commitment to the Canes, who were the first team to offer Sears a scholarship.

“They have coaches that actually recruit,” Sears recently told Rivals. “A lot of these schools are not recruiting honestly. They just send letters and generic texts. Miami has a real recruiting department.”
Sears’ commitment now gives Miami five five-star commits, putting them one behind Texas A&M for the most in the 2027 recruiting cycle. The Hurricanes, Aggies, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are the only teams in the country with four or more five-star pledges.
Landing Sears also pushed Miami ahead of Notre Dame and behind Texas A&M for the No. 2 recruiting class in the country. Sears joins cornerback Donte Wright, quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, and edge-rusher Jaiden Bryant as the five-star headlines in the Hurricanes’ class.

Sears took an official visit to Coral Gables back in March, and he raved about his experience in an interview with Rivals.
“Man, it was a vibe,” Sears said. “Played 3-on-3 basketball and ran the court for about nine straight games with Nick Lennear. I think playing for The U just excites me to put on for the crib.
“.. I love how physical and gritty Miami is. That’s my type of football. The coaching and recruiting staff continues to show me love, which is great as well.”
