The 2025 season was supposed to be Nebraska’s resurgence, with the team celebrating into the winter, hoping for a playoff spot.

Instead, head coach Matt Rhule’s squad is up in flames after it was announced that a third coach from the staff has been fired since the team’s loss to rival Iowa.

Defensive line coach Terry Bradden was removed on Tuesday. This comes after the departures of defensive coordinator John Butler and offensive line coach Donovan Raiola.

Bradden was in his first year as a coach for the Cornhuskers, having come over from the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL. During his tenure with the Chiefs, he served as a defensive assistant before moving up to assistant defensive line coach from 2021 to 2024, when he was scooped up by Nebraska.

The trio of firings puts a microscope on Nebraska, which has attempted to transform its image over the past few years. Rhule’s hiring alongside the recruitment of a star quarterback prospect Dylan Raiola was supposed to be the ushering in of a new era of Cornhuskers football, but it has been anything but.

Donvoan Raiola, the uncle of Dylan, being removed amid rumors of the quarterback’s possible entry into the transfer portal, has further fueled speculation. If Raiola does transfer this offseason, he will have a series of suitors, including the Miami Hurricanes, LSU Tigers, and Indiana Hoosiers, all of whom are expected to need new starting quarterbacks in 2026.

Nebraska will travel west later this month to play a tough 10-2 Utah team in the Las Vegas Bowl.
