Matt Leinart still believes in USC despite the team's disappointing loss to Wisconsin.

In an interview with Newsweek, Leinart shared his thoughts on the Trojans, who are currently 6-2 and 3-2 in the Big Ten. The former USC QB says that the Trojans are a good football team but can't afford to lose another game if they want to reach the College Football Playoff.

"They're 6 and 2. I think the margin of error is gone because we haven't seen a three-loss team get in the playoffs," Leinart told Newsweek. "So they have to win out. The schedule is brutal with Ohio State, Indiana, UCLA at the end. Three top-10 teams. They're a really good football team. I think still that kind of cloud that looms over this program is winning that big game, winning that game that can change the course of a season."

"...I think the defense has been sporadic at times," Leinart added. "I think last week was disappointing because coming off a buy and delay the egg on offense, and I know they're as disappointed as anybody, but they're 6 and 2. There's a lot to play for."

USC, a team that has won 11 national championships, has not reached the College Football Playoff. The last time the Trojans won 10 or more games was in 2022, when they went 11-3 in Lincoln Riley's first season as head coach.

Matt Leinart Wants All Big Ten Teams to Give Blood This Season

Along with supporting this year's USC football team, Leinart is helping the school win a blood donation competition. For the 2026 season, Leinart has teamed up with Abbot and the Big Ten to tackle blood shortages across the country.

The We Give Blood competition brings together all 18 Big Ten schools to see who can donate the most blood. The winning school receives a $1 million grant from Abbot.

"We've had about 80,000 plus donations so far, which has saved up to about 250,000 lives to this point, which is cool because one donation can save up to three lives," Leinart said. "So that has been just an incredible impact."
