Kirk Herbstreit has some advice for Luke Fahey, who will make his first start as Ohio State's quarterback on Saturday night.

On ESPN's "College GameDay," Herbstreit shared what Fahey needs to do in the matchup against USC. Fahey is replacing Julian Sayin, who injured his throwing arm in the game against Indiana earlier this month.

"The big thing I think that Luke Fahey has to understand is - he's a Southern California guy - is not to feel like he has to make places," Herbstreit said. "Think about the talent he has around him. A punt is okay. Every drive ending in a kick, whether it's a punt, or a field goal, or extra point. And just not feel like he has to do it."

"...Just don't lose the game," Herbstreit added. The reason he's in there over (Tavien) St. Clair, he understands the offense. The game makes sense to him. Just play smart; Ohio State should be fine offensively."

Luke Fahey Had a Standout High School Football Career

In the Indiana game, Fahey did not complete the two passes he threw, but the Buckeyes won 19-15. He has played in four games this season and has completed 9-of-13 passes for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Fahey joined Ohio State this year after having a standout high school football career. He played at Mission Viejo and threw for 3,199 yards and 25 touchdowns during his senior season. Fahey was a three-star recruit and ranked the No. 37 quarterback in the On3|Rivals Industry Rankings Class of 2026.

Ohio State is currently 6-1, and the loss was against Texas. The Buckeyes are looking to win their second national championship in three seasons.
