The transfer portal has been closed, which means it's the offseason for college football coaches around the country, right?
No, that means it's time for high school recruiting.
While top college coaches scour the country to talk to the best young football players high school has to offer, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs dropped a bombshell on Monday.

Kemon Spell, the undisputed best running back in the 2027 class, has committed to the Bulldogs after being courted by the likes of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Miami, and more.
Spell could have gone to any program he wanted to in college football, but he chose Smart and wants to play in Athens once he graduates.
A five-star out of McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Spell is regarded as a running back who has the speed to be a superstar in college while also possessing the physical gifts to gain hard yards inside the trenches. At 5-foot-10, he is a sturdy 210 lbs. and defied expert predictions he'd stay at home with Penn State or go to Notre Dame by committing to the SEC powerhouse down south.
For Smart and the Bulldogs, it's a gigantic win following a disastrous transfer portal season in which they were lapped by LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas.
While that trio of SEC invested heavily into acquiring high-skilled players in the transfer window, Smart is continuing what has made Georgia a perennial contender: building through high school recruitment.
In total, Georgia brought in only nine new players from the transfer portal, ranking 14th out of 16 SEC teams, per 247Sports.
It's the complete opposite in high school recruiting, with the Bulldogs currently in sixth place for 2027.
Smart and Georgia will open their 2026 season on Saturday, Sep. 5, at home against Tennessee State.
