Following a disappointing loss to Indiana in the College Football Playoff, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson opted to take his talents to the professional league.

His decision to enter the 2026 NFL Draft meant not returning for another chance to lead Alabama into the CFP for a championship. It is also rumored that he received lucrative offers to play at several other high-profile programs, including Miami and Tennessee.

During a recent episode of "The Joel Klatt Show," the analyst and podcaster shared his thoughts on the matter. Klatt indicated he expects that Simpson will be the second-best quarterback available in the draft, behind Indiana's Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza.

Klatt also pointed out that potentially going in the top six of the NFL Draft would mean better money for Simpson than he might have received through NIL in college. However, Klatt turned his attention to serious concerns about potential "tampering" involving two schools offering deals to lure Simpson to their college football teams.

“He’s gonna forego another season and go pro, even though he apparently was offered massive, massive dollars to stay in college, albeit to transfer by both Miami and Tennessee,” Klatt said on his podcast, adding, “He even admitted that the offer hovered around six and a half million from Miami, which is wild.”

“Wait, how is he getting offers if he’s not in the transfer portal? Like, isn’t that tampering?” Klatt asked.

Klatt suggested it seems like “blatant” tampering and called out the coaches for ignoring it, despite many claiming they dislike it occurring in college football.

“We don’t get them tackling that. We get them changing a red shirt rule. What?” he said, referring to yesterday's decision by FBS coaches.

As of this writing, opinions vary regarding where Simpson might go in the NFL Draft. However, Oregon quarterback Dante Moore decided to return for another season with his team, making him a stronger pick for teams in need of a quarterback.

That includes the New York Jets, who hold the second pick in the NFL Draft. Many mock drafts predicted they would select Moore in that spot, but now he's off the board.

While Simpson seems to have made the right financial decision, Klatt raises serious concerns about the state of college football. Changes are needed as coaches and players continue jockeying for the best deals they can get, seeming to take the joy out of the actual competition.
