North Carolina State head coach Dave Doeren is undefeated against Pittsburgh in his current role but needs an upset to maintain that streak in Saturday’s ACC showdown. That’s because the Panthers are in the midst of a three-win streak and looking to extend what’s already been a transformative second half of the season.
The headline story is freshman Mason Heintschel, who has gone 3-0 since his promotion to QB1. Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi pulled the trigger on that decision following a home loss to Louisville, and it’s fair to say no one around the team has had much reason to look back - that is, unless you’re demoted quarterback Eli Holstein.
Pittsburgh is averaging 38.4 points per game and boasts the third-best offense in the ACC as things stand, though 11th-year coach Narduzzi isn’t taking the threat of NC State lightly. The Wolfpack is in need of a rabid response after falling 36-7 against Notre Dame last week and with only one conference win under its belt so far this season.
