Coach Tim Albin leads a struggling 49ers squad into South Florida with only one win (vs. Monmouth), despite having the third-easiest strength of schedule (-9.81) according to Sports Reference. This will be Charlotte’s first road game of the season, after losing to Appalachian State, North Carolina, and Rice at home. Against Rice, finishing drives was a major problem, as they had to settle for three field goals in the first half, including two from inside the 30-yard line.
South Florida began their season with a bang, defeating No. 25 Boise State 34-7, then pulling off a rousing 18-16 upset of No. 13 Florida on the road. The Bulls earned themselves the No. 18 ranking in the AP Polls before getting run out of Miami, losing 49-12 to the No. 5 Hurricanes. Currently unranked, the Bulls are fresh off a 63-14 throttling of South Carolina State, scoring five touchdowns in a decisive third quarter.
