The college football coaching carousel is slowly starting to pick up, with three Power 4 jobs opening up in the last couple of weeks.

Maryland, Baylor, and NC State are looking for new head coaches amid disappointing seasons. The Maryland job is attracting some big-time names, including a former NFL head coach.

Per Jeff Ermann of InsideMDSports, former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan has been "putting out feelers" for the Terrapins head coaching job.

Ryan got his start in coaching at the college level, starting his career at Eastern Kentucky as a graduate assistant. He's served as the defensive coordinator of Morehead State, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma. He has never been a head coach at the college level.

Ryan led the Jets to two consecutive AFC championship appearances with the Jets. He went 46-50 with New York and 15-16 with the Bills. He hasn't coached since 2016, his last year with Buffalo.

Ryan has since applied for other coaching opportunities. He interviewed for the coaching vacancy of the Jets in 2025. Ryan believed he was going to land the job, but New York ultimately gave Aaron Glenn the opportunity.

"Oh, 100 percent, absolutely, I do," Ryan said, via ESPN. "The reason I think I'm going to get it is because I'm the best guy for it. It ain't close. The thing you have to do is, you have to connect with your football team, you have to connect with your fan base. The way they play, that's the most important thing.

"It's not just the X's and O's and all that. This Ben Johnson, I love him, I absolutely love him, but I'm a better candidate for this job than he would be."

Maryland fired Mike Locksley on Oct. 21 amid a 2-5 start to the season. He went 39-54 during his time as head coach at UM.
